Reporting to: Development Team Leader
Role objective: To carry out and to support the day-to-day lab and fatigue testing of various Brake and clutch components at Alcon Tamworth.
Key Responsibilities:
- To prepare components for test including component rebuilds, pre-test and post-test dimensional measurements.
- To set up product, install instrumentation and data acquisition system.
- To perform a range of product characterisation, structural, fatigue and environmental tests
- To compile and maintain full records of all tests undertaken,
- To support and perform data post processing using Excel and other software.
- To prepare Test Reports using standard templates
- To carry out booking in, storage and disposal of test parts
- To carry out upkeep and storage of test fixtures
- To maintain equipment as scheduled in the TPM Plan.
- To perform validation of instrumentation against calibrated masters.
- To maintain 5S standards and keep works areas at a presentable level.
- To work within the requirements of the Alcon Laboratory Manual within IATF16949 and ISO14001.
- To support other functions within development assisting with:
- Vehicle test preparation
- Dynamometer test activities.
Qualifications HNC in mechanical engineering or equivalent level 4 will be considered.
Work Experience
- >1 year experience in a product testing environment ideally gained in a mechanical / hydraulic product related industry. And/or
- >1 year experience in a workshop setting, where there is evidence of a broad range of mechanical skills.

Knowledge and technical skills
- Experience in testing with electronically controlled data acquisition equipment.
- Knowledge of operating principles of various test sensors (position/pressure/load/temperature)
- Use of analysis software for the processing and presentation of data
- Working within guidelines of a Quality System
- Experience of brake, actuation and clutch systems would be highly desirable. Must have an understanding of mechanical and hydraulic components.
- Preparing, performing and analysing laboratory and / or vehicle-based tests.
- Good PC operating skills, especially all Office applications
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to read 2D (or 3D) CAD in combination with a good understanding of mechanical design
- Knowledge / experience of aspects of machine automation and / or PLC control would be an advantage
