Reporting To: Lead Process Engineer – Assembly
Role Purpose: To provide day to day production engineering support to the Alcon production system to deliver finished product to the required Quality, Cost & Delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Assembly Production Engineers in delivering smooth & effective support to the manufacturing business.
- Support the delivery of KPI targets for, Quality, Cost, and Delivery
- Ensures all company procedures are adhered to.
- Deals with constraints or secures support/assistance of the Production Engineers.
- Promote high level of housekeeping throughout manufacturing environment to 5S standard.
- Ensures processes tools and technique are developed to “best practice.”
- With the support of the Production Engineering team, design and implement assembly and test processes for assembly (to include tools, equipment, fixtures etc)
- Suggests Continuous Improvement initiatives, focusing on cost reduction.
- Work closely and be proactive with Design Engineers in order to understand designs for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
- Analysis of and finds solutions to problems relating to the assembly process (e.g., identifying weaknesses in these processes and initiating the appropriate actions).
- Collecting data and investigating non-conformances to initiate corrective actions to achieve the division’s quality targets.
- Advise Manufacturing and Assembly teams where required, to ensure smooth assembly processes.
- Provide support to manufacturing engineering activities for identifying long term manufacturing strategies.
- Generate process documentation and maintain process continuity (PFMEA, Control Plans, Flow Charts & Process docs e.g., Work Instructions, Layout’s etc.)
- Specifying designs for fixtures & tooling for in house or subcontract manufacture.
- Perform other production engineer activities as and when required.
Man Management
- Where required, train production staff during process hand over.
- Support project meetings in order to convey and ensure the adherence of DFM as applies to the manufacturing facility.
- Participate and support continuous improvement teams and other working groups
- Support and work to the Quality, Health Safety & Environmental Management Systems (IATF 16949, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001)
- Makes suggestions and recommendations to improve quality control documents.
- Ensure clear identification of scrap, reject & sample materials.
The Candidate
- Ideally working to become degree qualified having already completed their first three years of a formal apprentice training program and gaining the necessary BTEC and NVQ qualifications.
- Ability to conceptualise and specify assembly tooling and test equipment.
- Able to work with IT systems and possess a good level of PC literacy.
- Experience of working with CAD packages e.g. Solidworks etc.
- An understanding of electronic, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- A no fault forward poke yoke approach to assembly processes.
- Self-motivated and able to manage own time effectively.
- Good understanding of products and processes.
- Planning & Organizing: Develops realistic work plans, sets goals, and aligns personal plans/goals with company goals.
- Flexible, shares knowledge with the Team and other departments.
