Alcon was established in 1983 by engineer and sports car racer John Moore (left) in order to make brakes for Audi Sport’s Group B Quattro rally cars. Today the company employs over 80 people based at its HQ and factory in Tamworth, UK, and at customer service centres in the USA and France.
From F1 to NASCAR, from World Rally to Australian V8 Supercars, from Indycars to Japanese GT500, Alcon brakes and clutches are relied upon by teams competing in the major championships across the globe.
Whether supplying innovative race-winning technology to teams in F1, or providing the stopping power for Sébastien Loeb and Citroën to take seven successive World Rally Championship Driver’s titles, Alcon’s expertise is both learnt and applied at the very pinnacle of motorsport.
In the US, every IRL title since 2003 has been won using Alcon brakes, and our product is mandated for the hard-braking road course races. And in the NASCAR Sprint Cup – one of the toughest-braking race series anywhere in the world – it is no surprise to find Joe Gibbs Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Richard Petty Motorsports running Raybestos brand brake hardware – all designed and manufactured by Alcon.
In Japan, Alcon is a long time supplier to teams in the GT500 Championship; and in Australia we are proud of the fact that when the V8 Supercar series organisers wanted to standardise on a single brake package for the 2007 season and beyond, they chose Alcon – beginning a partnership that continues to this day.
Performance Road Cars
Alcon supplies some of the world’s most prestigious marques including Audi, Bentley, Brabus and Jaguar Land Rover; as well as some of the most extreme applications such as the 900bhp/tonne Ariel Atom 500 and the 225mph Noble M600.
Adept at delivering programmes that meet the stipulations of mainstream OEMs, but at a cost that can be borne by low volume runs, Alcon is experiencing rapidly growing demand for its capabilities in this sector.
That same expertise is also available to owners upgrading their street cars for enhanced performance on road or track: Alcon Advantage Extreme brake kits and upgraded clutches are available through our global network of specialist tuners and distributors.
Armoured protection for VIPs, military vehicles, hybrid supercars, zero emission municipal trucks, low carbon taxis – just some of the applications for which Alcon has engineered bespoke brake and clutch solutions. With a wealth of experience in brake and clutch design, backed by its well-equipped development facility, Alcon thrives on the challenge of devising innovative and unusual solutions.
